BYLAWS OF THE JOURNAL OF CONSERVATION PLANNING

ARTICLE I. OFFICES

1.01

The principal office of the journal in the State of Florida shall be located in the City of Gainesville, County of Alachua. The journal may have such other offices, either within or without the State of Florida, as the Editors-in-Chief may designate or as the business of the journal may require from time to time.

 

 

ARTICLE II. PURPOSES

The purposes for which the journal is organized are as follows:

2.01

To serve as a professional journal for persons using tools such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) or remote sensing for conservation and/or conservation planning. To create and maintain standards for performance and competency in conservation planning work

2.02

To do anything necessary, proper, advisable or convenient for the accomplishment of the foregoing purpose, and to do all other things incidental to it or connected with it that are not forbidden by the non-profit journal statutes of the State of Florida, by any other law, or by these Bylaws.

 

 

ARTICLE III. EDITORIAL BOARD

3.01 GENERAL POWERS

The business and affairs of the journal shall be vested in and managed by the Editors-in-Chief and Managing Editor. Decision making shall be by majority vote, unless otherwise specified in these bylaws.

3.02 NUMBER, TENURE, & QUALIFICATION

The number of Members of the Editorial Board of the journal shall not fall below fifteen (10) or exceed twenty-five (21). Each member of the editorial board shall hold office for two years and until his/her successor shall have been selected and qualified. Members of the Editorial board not serve more than three (3) consecutive terms. A Member of the Editorial Board must be a person with expertise in one of the following areas: conservation biology, conservation ecology, landscape ecology, conservation planning, urban and regional planning, landscape architecture, remote sensing and/or Geographic Information Systems.

3.03 RESIGNATION

Members of the Editorial Board may resign at any time by giving written notice to the Editors-in-Chief or Managing Editors of the journal. Unless otherwise specified in the notice, the resignation shall take effect upon receipt thereof by the Editors-in-Chief or Managing Editors of the journal. The acceptance of the resignation shall not be necessary to make it effective.

3.04 VACANCIES

The Editors-in-Chief and/or Managing Editors shall have power to fill vacancies on the Editorial Board.

3.05 EQUITY AND BALANCE

The Editors-in-Chief or Managing Editors of the journal are to encourage diversity and fairness. This includes diversity in the areas of gender, ethnic perspectives, age, geographical perspectives, and other areas that encourage cultural, economic, and ecological fairness.

3.06 REMOVAL OF MEMBERS OF THE EDITORIAL BOARD

Members of the Editorial Board may be removed at any annual meeting by a simple majority vote of the Editors-in-Chief, Managing Editors and Editorial Board Members present.

 

 

ARTICLE IV. EDITORS-IN-CHIEF AND MANAGING EDITORS

4.01 ELECTION & TERM OF OFFICE Each Editor-in-Chief shall not hold the same office for more than two (2) successive five-year terms.

4.03 VACANCIES IN EDITORS-IN-CHIEF

A vacancy because of death, resignation, removal, disqualification, or otherwise, may be filled by the an appointed member nominated by the Editors-in-Chief for the unexpired portion of the term.

 

 

ARTICLE V. NON-DISCRIMINATION

5.01 No person shall be denied publication within the journal or be excluded from serving or being served by the journal because of race, color, sex, creed, sexual orientation, national ancestry, national origin, age, marital status, or physical disability.

5.02

There shall be no discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, creed, sexual orientation, national ancestry, national origin, age, marital status, or physical disability with regards to hiring, assignment, promotion, or other conditions of staff employment, or with respect to members being selected for the Editorial Board, Managing Editors and/or Editors-in-Chief.

 

 

ARTICLE VI. PAID STAFF

6.01

The Editors-in-Chief may appoint paid staff members of the journal, fix compensation, prescribe duties and terms of employment.
