The editors wish to welcome you to Volume 2 of the Journal of Conservation Planning, a peer reviewed journal for the application of conservation science and spatial analysis to the planning practice. The articles in this edition once again advance our primary objective for producing this publication - exploration of new ideas, techniques, and perspectives that advance resource conservation through planning. This edition continues the geographic diversity of Volume 1 within the United States with cutting edge projects located in Vermont, the Rocky Mountains, and the Pacific Northwest. It also continues to fill a niche through a healthy mix of research and application oriented content from the academic, nonprofit, and government sectors. For future editions, we hope to add more international representation through a concerted outreach effort at the upcoming Society for Conservation Biology and Society for Conservation GIS Conferences in California in June 2006. This edition also includes relevant topics in conservation planning, ranging from the conservation impacts of road networks to the irreplaceability and vulnerability of conservation areas to the modeling of potential species habitat at a regional scale. For Volume 3, we plan to continue our broad request for topics within conservation planning, while also evaluating the pros and cons of special themed issues for Volume 4 and beyond.

Special thanks are in order once again to Karen Whitney for making Volume 2 a reality. This publication would not have been possible without her diligence, dedication and perseverance. The editors also would like to thank our Editorial Board members and peer reviewers for their continued assistance and patience in preparation of Volume 2.

We welcome your feedback on Volume 2, and look forward to incorporating your comments as we plan for the release of Volume 3 in early 2007.
